China:

Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka talks with counterpart Hu Jintao, likely to offer 20-per-cent stake in state-run Belarusian potassium manufacturer; opens joint science centre in Changchun, Jilin Province; also visits World Expo 2010 in Shanghai (-11)

North Korea: 

Second day of Chinese Communist Party delegation led by Standing Committee member Zhou Yongkang visit to meet members of Korean Workers' Party Central Committee; first visit since way paved for leader Kim Jong-il's son to succeed. (NB Today is anniversary of founding of ruling Korean Workers' Party (1945) and state conducts its largest-ever military parade to mark 65th anniversary)

Vietnam:

Second day of US Defence Secretary Robert Gates four day visit, meets Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and talks include fate of Americans missing from Vietnam war; also attends Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defence Ministers Plus Eight meeting 

Russia: 

Elections to six regional parliaments, legislative bodies in 14 administrative centres, mayoral elections in two cities, including Makhachkala, capital of restive North Caucasus republic of Dagestan

Russia: 

TENTATIVE Investigations Committee under Russian prosecutor's office completes investigation into crash of Polish President Lech Kaczynski's aircraft near Smolensk on 10 April; relatives of those killed in crash visit site, Polish First Lady Anna Komorowska may meet Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev's wife Svetlana in Smolensk.

Pakistan:

Looking ahead as Pakistan says it will reopen a vital supply route for NATO forces at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border at Torkham tomorrow.

Kyrgyzstan: 

Parliamentary election. (The Osh province governor has said that voters could try to foment violence in southern Kyrgyzstan should their candidates fail to win seats in a new parliament)

Armenia: 

Third and final day of Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani visit 

Iran:

Profile of Reza Najafi after the head of the International Atomic Energy Association (IAEA) announced the appointment Iran's new representative. Interestingly, Ali Akbar Salehi said there was no reason to call back Ali Asghar Soltaniyeh, Iran's present envoy in the IAEA. 

Turkey:

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner visits Turkey (to Oct. 12).

Syria:

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay a one-day visit to Syria either today or tomorrow before traveling to Pakistan on October 12

Lebanon:

Watching security arrangement challenge after Hezbollah has called for a mass turnout to welcome Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at 7:30 am (0430 GMT) on October 13 along the airport road. 

Israel:

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and his Spanish counterpart, Miguel Angel Moratinos visit Israel and Palestinian Territories.

Egypt:

The Muslim Brotherhood said it would take part in a parliamentary election next month and would field candidates for a third of the seats in parliament - 169 of 508 seats on offer, and would have contested more if it weren’t for government opposition.

Sudan:

Watching for developments after clashes broke out between separatists in the Sudanese capital when opponents of the country's potential breakup in a southern independence vote due in January demonstrated

Libya:
